How about a trip to the Rila Monastery? This is one of Bulgaria's foremost tourist attractions and a 1 hour and 40 minute drive away from Govedartsi. Or visit the historic town of Plovdiv. There is a Roman Amphitheatre, cobbled streets in the old quarter, and many buildings displaying a range of brightly coloured architecture. The new centre of Plovdiv is bustling with activity, and will keep the thoroughly modern shopper amused too! |
Sofia, Bulgaria's capital has a mix of old and new sites to see, with the imposing Vitosha Mountain overlooking it all. The outdoor street markets dotted around the city sell a wide variety of interesting items, from old cameras - still in working order, to Russian dolls, Russian hats and beautiful jewellery. There are a number of ornate churches in the city centre too. |
